Victoria Falls - December 21-24, 2006

Jen and I had our anniversary supper at the fancy restaurant in the hotel. It was delicious!! We had a five course meal, live music, and there were only two other couples in the whole place. All of the cutlery, candle sticks, salt and pepper, tea service was real silver! They searched us at the door to make sure we didn't take any. No not really but I am sure they keep an eye on it.

These next few pictures are of the falls. They were amazing! It was literally raining on us as we walked by them only there was no rain clouds in the sky. Good thing we took our umbrella. There is so much mist there that there is pratically a rain forest growing right above the falls. We happen to go when the river was almost at it lowest point so we were able to see the falls. We were told that if you go when the river is high you can't see the falls cause the amount of midst.

This picture was taken at Rainbow Point. I'm sure that you can see why. This was the highest point of the falls 108m(354ft.) Funny thing is was there was no rail what so ever along the edge. If you wanted to do a swan dive off the edge no one or thing was going to stop you.

This spot was really nice cause it was a nice light mist that was touching your face. Like someone holding a spary bottle and lightly misting you every time you got hot.

You can see the falls between us and during rainy season you would be able to see water flowing over both of my shoulders. What a sight that would be!

This is the "backyard" of the Victoria Falls Hotel. Our room looked out on to this yard. We were able to see the Zambezi River which is the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. It was amazing. The hotel was very nice and even Queen Elizabeth II stayed there with her parents when she was young.

Our first night there we went on a boat cruize on the upper Zambezi. It was very cool cause a rain storm had just rolled through and we should have brought a sweater. They said before we started that the more you drank the more animals you saw. We didn't take them up on that.

Or did we.....? This guy we saw right at the end of the tour. I was scared that if I stuck my arm out any farther that he would have been swimming away with it. What does he make you feel like - hot dog, steak, pork chop?

We saw 2 groups of hippos along the river. This one actually got out of the water for us, although he didn't open his mouth for one of those famous teeth pictures. They were actually really hard to spot, they look like rocks at first with only their ears and eyes peeking out of the water.

We decided that we needed an adventure, so we went white-water rafting down the Zambezi River. This river is one of the hardest in the world to raft down. We were there during the dry season. Low river = big rapids. It was an experience!!! Although we think the hardest part of the day was the climb out of the canyon at the end. This is the first part of the river that we went down, Rapid #2,3 and 4. You could actually see this part of the river from our hotel.

That pile of rocks on the right hand side of the picture was the starting point for the rafting. It was quite a climb getting down there. The falls are right beyond this picture to the left, we were literally at the bottom of them. It was a ride we'll never forget!!!
